How to complain about the weather
We should keep these sorts of conversations to those total strangers meeting for the first time. It'
s easy to slip into that safe ground of weather discussions, even with people we know very well! The way to do this, I understand, is to say there'
s too much of something in the sky (clouds/Sun) or to complain about stuff falling from the sky (rain/snow etc.) But giraffes? No such thing as bad weather - only bad clothing, I heard someone say once. What clothing could possibly protect us from falling giraffes?

Heh, I agree.. . we are always doing that. It'
s almost always (I think) traceable to either "The Barbarians are coming" or the classic "The sky might fall on us you know". In these pleasant times though, it'
s turned in to complaining about the weather.
In the more likely than you might expect event; a herd of Giraffes get sucked up by a tropical storm and you find yourself in the thick of it, duck and cover!

Those Huns never did get over the huge mistake of appointing Attila as their Ruler! I’m sure he wasn’t always on the rampage – I happen to know he played a mean tune on the old veena. It usually wasn’t until after he’d had his beef olives with wine but it was always worth waiting for. Did they even have weather in those days? What came before the analogue weather forecast, now that we have digital? Chicken Licken wasn’t too smart as he announced those fateful words, was he? If he had kept it to himself; if he was nothing but a shy and retiring chicken just like any other; if only he had kept that jabbering beak closed, he’d still be alive today!
I’m more than ready for falling giraffes now – I have at least 6 giraffe recipes looked out and have purchased a healthy supply of stock cubes. What stock cubes does one need to help with the making of tasty giraffe gravy? Chicken of course!

heh
I'
ve seen this from the battle field, thought not myself mind. Preamble aside, I rekon: Disney can'
t let chicken licken happen, disney just touches on that Grimms reality, which is really demise or at the very worse decline not and they lived happily ever etc.
No idea what a veena is but I just listened to
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1pYTOHernds
cold cold heart, *doffs hat*. Never heard Hank Williams before. Just to slip a classic in if I may,

Iris DeMent is a new name to me. She reminds me of Emmylou Harris – her voice that is. I see she has worked with John Prine a few times? I wish I could remember what song of his I heard on Bob Harris’ show years back. A mountain of C60 and C90 taped radio shows to rummage through and I’m sure I could track it down in just under 6 months! Hank Williams died in a taxi on his way to a gig in Canton, Ohio and was only 29 years old. btw, the clue is in the quotee – not so much the quote…
They were the backbone
Ah, Disney. Now there’s a corporation always ready to sue someone or another. I so wanted to believe that rumours of him being cryonically frozen were true. Imagine the 65 year old being brought to life again and seeing what crap Disney are producing these days? He’d be turning in his grave if he wasn’t cremated! WB made a much more edgy cartoon anyway - Disney was always safe and pure and didn’t take too many risks.

There is something in that kind of voice that hits something in the soul, I play it (mangle it) but just can'
t stop the meare 3 chord arrangment from getting a little tired by the end =(
Heh, Emmylou is a fox, at least on the video I saw! But now I'
m thinking about Disneys reanimated (no pun intended) head in a jar... *shudders*. 29 is no age for a man to die btw, still have to thank him for the music!
Speaking about all that is pure and good, the hero'
s journey, the heroine'
s yearning etcetera I'
ve seen several childrens books of late (3 year old story demanding daughter) that simply gloss over the *actual* endings. Little red riding hood'
s gran *doesn'
t* get eaten and the wolf does not get hacked up by the woodsman'
s axe, for one. Finding an original Grimms, was to say the least some hassle.. . I do now have a copy.
Seems to me at least that we aren'
t warning our kids (in a way they understand) that there are very dangerous people out there and that caution through distance (possibly fear) is a value. Just my 2 cents tho.
Anyway, meant to say welcome! It'
s a shade quiet round these here parts of the internets =) but pull up a pew, and feel free to crack open a brew..

Thanks and Slainte Mhath! My “brew” is usually none stronger (or weaker) than a red, red wine. I’m partial to a wee dram but have very expensive tastes – more often than not I’ll order one myself to save other’s pockets! If you ever see anyone heading for the bar alone, to order a drink FOR them self – don’t take offence – all they want (probably) is to make sure they get most of that Highland Park before anyone else does!
Is it the music hitting the soul or is it the simplicity of the lyric? She’s singing about things most of us can relate to and, compared with today’s lyrics, that’s a rare quality. Who, since
#They Might Be Giants#
have given us songs we can easily relate to?
Nothing wrong with scary endings to stories that begin with so much hope. They prepare us for those annoying times when some things go horribly wrong! Those Grimm Brothers may have been the start of why everyone thinks Germans have no sense of humour? They build a damn good car so I for one don’t care! :-)
Seems to me the ratio of visitors to visitors/posters on these here pages don’t balance out. Shyness is nice and OK and could even be overcome by mentioning first the weather, but it would be nicer and more OK if they actually formulated other words? I’m sure they feel more than welcome!

birdhouse
classic tune, that raised a smile! You are spot on with the visitors / posters ratio.. . even if you eliminate the robots which account for about 60% of the traffic there definately are many more viewers than posters which is a shame, I think. Perhaps I should put up some more posters at the hall.. . If anything, this site does at least serve as a hall message board.
Maybe the dialogue is a little too spicy at times, but everyone is welcomed with open arms and with the regular posters like Rachel and Alan balancing out the content it does reflect partly what'
s going on in the '
musk. Certainly it needs more active posters tho!
Back to music if I may, and I realise this was originally 70'
s Bowie, but Kurt Cobain'
s version hits the spot for me
The Man who Sold the World
, one tune I do manage well enough.. but it doesn'
t top Birdhouse for cheer! Thankee for reminding me of that particular jem there Mr Beattie

We never see these guys on telly - we need to have more programs like The Tube and Big World Café on our screens again! I'
m sure Stanley Jordan plays that style of guitar (saw him on The Tube) I always thought he should have teamed up with Mark King - they could have made a few jazz-rock tracks and I could be listening to them as I type all the bilge water! :-/

It'
ll feel strange to some though - posting messages to people you know you'
ll probably see in person the next day. I can relate to those who are quite happy to take a back seat to it all.
Does THE Archie visit these here pages then? There'
s no way of persuading him to contribute is there?
Here'
s something for you Sir Archie -
Sir Archbald Grant Reel
They have spelled Monymusk slightly wrong but nobody'
s perfect!

Nah, lol. I don'
t think Archie'
s signed up unless he'
s masquarading as someone else. And talking about '
probably meeting the person the next day'
, you are the postie! You see just about everyone every day! Last time I spoke to steve was when he scraped my drive last winter!
I like to think I get around funnymusk but somehow I'
ve not bumped into him for almost a year! His mum, check. His dad, check. His wife, check... I'
ve even seen his dog more than once this year

I see you'
ve chosen the american (should "american" have a capital letter - ameRican?) date format and it'
s a wee bit confusing! What will you be doing next - banning the overuse of the letter U? Giving us all a sign out, pop-up window displaying the words "Have A Nice Day"? I shouldn'
t complain really. We, stuck in our old traditions brits (briTs?), could do with a fresh way of doing things. Chances of persuading the people of America to start the day with a nice strong cup of tea are?
