RIDER TO THE REGULATIONS
Subsequent to trials at site which have identified a number of potential hazards, the following is important safety information. The gradient at the start of the course is 1/10 and the speed of the cairts may reach up to 35 or 45 mph, within this first mile there are a couple of fairly serious bends and at the end there is a seriously sharp bend! The driver only will be in the cairt at the start line down the fastest and steepest part of the course, the other two team members will join the driver and cairt at the sharpest bend.
We suggest each cairtie should have a braking system on both rear wheels, capable of locking the rear wheels and we would advise an appropriate steering system robust enough to cope, probably central privoting, perhaps a simple Ackerman type. The Alford Transport Museum have very kindly offered to Scrutineer the cairts on the 17th and also to advise entrants on their braking and steering systems, or other design issues. Please telephone them on 01975.562.292 - they will be happy to discuss the construction of your cairtie over the phone and also to check your vehicle if you arrange a convenient time to take it to them at Alford.
